Today I had a few fun surprises:
1. I have been watching 3 small birds develop from 3 eggs in a flower pot on my deck. They flew away yesterday and today I heard them talking loudly. They were flying back and forth, between 2 of my big trees. Three small grey birds with reddish bodies darting in an out as if to say "Hi. Look at us. We have feathers now and we can fly!". Krystarla, Yvonne, and Renee are grown, safe and no longer come back to the nest. Bittersweet.
2. Maisy is 16+ years old and takes arthritis meds and supplements. Most days she moves at a slow pace and long ago stopped jumping. Today she heard a dog bark and just flew off my deck and LEAPED over 3 steps onto the driveway. I cringed but she was fine upon landing and kept running to meet a neighbor dog at the fence. She is my hero.
3. Sam has learned to avoid Buddy when we run (they run together but Buddy is so hyper he aggravates Sam who is trying harder to run given age and size). Sam rides the golf cart until Buddy gets tired then he just steps off and starts running with him. Smart dog.
4. Shanti has been through 13 weeks of healing her broken leg. She is still walking very delicately on her leg (cast is off now) and usually walks on 3 legs. Today she kept pulling to get off the golf cart so she could run some too. She IS the runner of my brood but has not been able to run, swim, or jump for over 3 months. I let her off and she galloped about 1/2 mile. She was SO happy. Her leg moves a little funny but each day it is getting better. She was just in heaven off the golf cart and running again. All smiles. My girl loves to run.
5. Went on a home visit for one of my rescue groups to check out a home before they adopt. Heartwarming to meet other like-minded people. Open, talkative, happy, well adjusted people, who have great pets and you can just tell (gut) their pets are of paramount importance in their household. I do not know why but we foster/rescuers are getting deluged right now with dogs that need homes so I am so happy to find more GOOD ones that are opening up to take more great dogs in need of real homes. God Bless.
So yes, I had a good day. And I am thankful.
